Commissioners extend delinquent-tax collection contract and outline June public tax resale

Waller County Commissioners Court voted to renew the county's delinquent tax collection contract with Purdue, Brandon, Fielder, Collins & Mott and heard details about a planned public tax resale in June.
Otilia Gonzales, representing the collection firm, requested a five-year renewal and reminded the court that all firm contracts include a 30-day termination provision. "All of our contracts have a 30 day out provision," she said, adding the firm absorbs postage, phone calls and database costs so collection services are provided at no cost to the county.
County staff explained the public tax resale process for properties where no bid was received at an initial sheriff's sale. For the June sheriff's sale the county will offer parcels for public bid; if a property remains unsold it will be "struck off" to the entity that requested the order of sale and may be held in county trust until a later claim is resolved. Staff noted there are ten properties on the proposed resale list and that minimum bids for unsold parcels may be reduced to encourage buyers.
The court approved the contract extension by voice vote. Gonzales said the firm would continue to report to the court on collections and that, if the county chooses, the 30-day out clause allows termination with short notice.
What happens next: The county will schedule the sheriff's sale in June and post the list of resale properties and maps; staff will return to the court with a bid analysis when sales are complete.
