Summary
The board voted to accept CDWG’s bid to buy 2,200 Chromebooks for $1,214,400, approved the April accounts payable docket and personnel leave report, and gave final passage to three board policy updates on third reading.
The Vigo County School Corp. board approved a recommendation to buy 2,200 Chromebooks from CDWG at a total cost of $1,214,400, with a four‑year accidental‑damage protection plan, protective cases and configuration, the administration told the board.
"I submit for your consideration a proposal to purchase 2,200 Acer... Chromebooks for our incoming kindergarten and fifth grade students that'll be next fall," said the district representative who introduced the proposal, noting the request for proposal process reviewed seven vendors and identified CDWG as the most responsive bidder. The speaker stated the total price was "$1,214,400." (proposal presented pending legal counsel review.)
Board members asked operational questions before voting; the board moved, seconded and approved the recommendation by voice vote. The administration said the price includes device insurance and services, and requested formal acceptance pending legal guidance.
Administration also presented the April accounts payable docket and a personnel professional leave report. Donna Wilson, presenting the docket, highlighted a payment of $397,730.32 to Covered Bridge Special Education District (described as the second of six 2026 assessment installments, with components listed as education fund $240,146.48, operations fund $72,248.76 and preschool $85,335.00), a $95,406.64 purchase from Titan Distributors for fitness equipment, and other routine purchases; the board approved the docket by voice vote.
On policy matters the board approved final passage (third reading) of three updates recommended by the policy committee: D125 (nepotism/conflict of interest/gifts), D175 (board–staff communications) and D450 (resignation policy). The policy committee chair said an item from CCHA and feedback from Amy Matthews were incorporated into the recommended language. The board approved the policies by voice vote.
The district also reported device repair experience: the presenter said this year’s Chromebook break/repair rate is "about 20%" while last year’s was "about 10%." Those operational metrics were offered as part of the district’s rationale for device replacement and licensing; the board did not amend the recommendation.
Next steps: the Chromebook award is subject to legal counsel review per the motion on the floor; administrative staff will coordinate contract review and implementation.
