Vigo County School Corp. celebrates Battle of the Books and Math Madness winners

Joy Mascari, the district’s Battle of the Books chair, told the Vigo County School Corp. board the elementary and middle school competitions were tightly contested events and introduced the winning teams and their coaches.
"It's my pleasure to spotlight the elementary and middle school Battle of the Books winning teams this evening," Mascari said, describing the middle school event on April 10 and the elementary battles on April 11.
Dee Gosnell, the district K–6 STEM coach, presented the Math Madness results and said this was the second in‑person Math Madness and the first year to include seventh graders. She thanked volunteers and vendors, and noted the VCSC provided transportation so students could attend at the Administration Building.
Students from grade levels across the district came forward to give their names and schools, and the board invited winners and coaches for photographs. Mascari and Gosnell also acknowledged a broad volunteer effort — including retired teachers, the county public library, the Vigo County Education Foundation and parents — that the presenters said made the events possible.
The presentations were ceremonial; there was no board action tied to the competitions. The board and presenters closed the segment by thanking students and coaches and inviting attendees to a photo with board members.
