Council sends vehicle funding request to finance after questions about fired fleet manager

Council member Wyatt told colleagues she had repeatedly asked where the fleet manager was and was troubled to learn the employee had been let go without clear explanation. "You let go of one person, but you have four other positions," Wyatt said, urging consolidation of roles and a transparent rationale for purchasing decisions. She asked that finance staff explain priorities for snow plows, garbage trucks, police and fire vehicles and how the city intends to allocate limited capital dollars.
Members moved to send item 54 to the finance committee for additional review and to have staff explain the vehicle‑related staffing changes and the rationale for the transfer.
The motion to send the transfer to finance was seconded and carried; members noted they would also revisit a previously filed certificate of necessity related to vehicles with the comptroller’s office. No approval of the transfer occurred in chambers; the matter will return to committee with requested documentation.
