The proclamation recounts the holiday’s origin and “publicly salutes the service of law enforcement officers in our community and in communities across the nation,” and says the observance is intended to thank officers and their families for public service. The chair said the county’s constables, municipal police, sheriff’s deputies and state troopers all contribute to public safety and encouraged residents to thank officers on Jan. 9.
A commissioner who spoke during the discussion thanked law-enforcement officers and their families for the sacrifices they make. The court voted to approve the proclamation.
The designation has no regulatory effect; it is a formal county recognition. There were no formal motions to create new programs or funding attached to the proclamation.
