Davis County Sheriff's lieutenant reports traffic, arrests and e-bike education plans

Lieutenant Mike Boyd of the Davis County Sheriff's Office presented the department's quarterly activity for the period January through April 25.
Key figures Boyd reported: 1,294 calls for service (331 dispatch-initiated and 963 officer-initiated), 12 custodial arrests, 405 traffic stops and nine traffic accidents. The department logged 64 reportable offenses including six DUIs among other categories (property damage, fraud, vehicle burglaries and assault). Boyd noted preliminary data may change slightly as the reporting period remains open through the meeting date.
On the state'level changes to e-bike statutes, Boyd said the department and local chiefs will coordinate outreach and education; he encouraged first-time enforcement to focus on education and warnings and noted the department will use social media and its new personnel for public messaging.
The council thanked him for the report and briefly discussed how deputies will approach education and enforcement of the e-bike law when it takes effect.
