Fiscal court adopts major budget amendment and holds first reading of FY2027 budget

On April 20 the Letcher County Fiscal Court adopted the second reading of budget amendment number 2 and approved a first reading of the FY2027 budget.
Fiscal staff detailed increased receipts and appropriations across multiple funds, including added state grants, LGEA/MGED grants, road allocations and federal-grant monies. The amendment increases both revenue and appropriation lines to accommodate grant awards and projected receipts; staff and the county judge executive certified prior signatures required by state local-finance rules.
The court then approved a motion for first reading of the FY2027 budget, which lays out general-fund amounts, road-fund allocations and other special-fund totals. Members asked targeted questions about debt-service rates, interest assumptions and timing for the final preapproval letter. The court also discussed transfers to correct prior deposits placed in incorrect accounts and instructed staff to set aside large project funds in separate accounts for clearer tracking.
The budget amendment was passed by roll-call vote; the first reading of the FY2027 budget also passed and will progress through subsequent readings and public-notice requirements.
