Rockwall County picks Qball Designs for new logo after 3–2 vote

Rockwall County Commissioner’s Court voted 3–2 on Nov. 25 to engage Qball Designs to develop a new county logo and creative package, after a lengthy discussion over design elements, public input and compensation for artists.

Commissioner Lichty (S7) presented two vendor packages — Fowler Designs and Qball Designs — and said he suggested three themes for any new mark: a circular shape, emphasis on county heritage (including the discovery statue and the rock wall motif), and the inclusion of the national motto “In God We Trust.” Commissioner Lichty said those three elements were intended as guidance for the designers.

Commissioner Gallano and others polled the court informally on design preference; multiple commissioners suggested forming a small committee of staff (Lauren and Dana were suggested) and involving employees or the public for later input before finalizing a mark. Commissioner Gallano ultimately moved to engage Qball Designs; the motion passed 3–2 after a roll-call of preferences.

Commissioner Lichty objected to aspects of the Qball mock-ups and stressed that the county seal will not be replaced — the logo is intended for tourism and promotional use. The court asked staff to ensure artists are compensated appropriately for renditions and that a committee or staff liaison help refine concepts before presenting final designs for a public vote or court approval.

What’s next: staff will formalize the vendor agreement with Qball Designs, establish a small working group to refine concepts, and return with a recommended process for internal/employee input and any public outreach before final selection.
