San Patricio County Commissioners Court voted to designate the Fairgrounds Civic Center meeting room as the county’s new main early‑voting polling place.
Victoria Pereira, the county’s election administrator, told the court that Chapter 85 of the Texas Election Code requires the court to establish a main early‑voting location. She said the current office is too small to host machines and activities without disrupting regular business, poses ADA access challenges and generates voter complaints. Pereira recommended the fairgrounds meeting room so staff can pilot the site in a smaller election before November.
Pereira said the change would help the office close underutilized voting locations and consolidate resources: “We have looked high and low, and I think what would work best for us would be the meeting room at the Fairgrounds Civic Center,” she said. Commissioners discussed turnout in underused precincts and noted the move could allow closing some low‑use locations while remaining compliant with statutory requirements about precinct balance.
The court approved the motion to change the main early‑voting site; staff said they plan outreach and a trial during the next local election cycle to identify logistical issues before the November general election.
