San Patricio County staff present precinct‑combination options as redistricting redraws local lines

County staff told the San Patricio County Commissioners Court on Dec. 8 that state redistricting will substantially alter local precinct and district lines and could split streets into different voting districts.
A department head identified as Miss Hill said the county "has been hit pretty bad, as far as the lines go," and that the court will receive maps showing how Portland, Ingleside and Aransas Pass could be affected. Miss Hill said the county is waiting for state clarification on which precincts may be combined.
Victoria, who presented two plans, said one option — if the county may not permanently combine precincts — would raise precincts from 25 to 32; a second plan that assumes temporary combining allowed under a Senate bill (referred to in the packet) would keep the number nearer the current count (about 26–27). She cautioned that changes would have clerical impacts and make it harder for voters to know where and when to vote.
Staff said certificates normally go out by Dec. 6 but were delayed pending the state decision; once the county has final maps and legal clarity, officials said they will begin a voter‑education campaign to explain new precinct locations and polling places.
Court members asked procedural questions and were told staff will bring maps and an outreach plan back to the court once the state provides the needed clarification.
