A public commenter who identified herself as a member of the county Elections Commission and county Democratic Party chair, Dr. Maddox (S4), asked the court to return to weekly commissioners’ court meetings and to restore five‑minute public-comment slots, and she urged repetitive training for election workers.
"Election worker should be trained," Dr. Maddox said, arguing that employees who work only occasionally need recurring instruction and that the Elections Commission should meet with the elections administrator to clarify expectations.
County staff later described procedural election items on the agenda. Staff (Christy/Elections office referenced) reported a joint resolution to contract for the May primary, an address change for the elections office (from the Kerish Building to the Kasimba Annex), and confirmed early-voting and Election Day locations — including sites in the Katy and Sonterra areas — will be open for the upcoming election.
The county judge noted that the Kasimba Annex (former county clerk space) now houses the elections office and that moving equipment and storage to a single location should improve operations and storage of election equipment. Commissioners discussed coverage challenges for early voting in rapidly growing neighborhoods and the statewide early‑voting law that sets how long locations must stay open.
No new policy changes to public-comment rules or meeting frequency were adopted at the meeting; Dr. Maddox said she will continue to press for an Elections Commission meeting to set expectations for training and oversight of election‑worker preparation.
The court approved the procedural items related to elections on the consent/agenda and noted staff will post locations and schedule information on the county website and social media.
