Justice Center moves toward commissioning as county hears construction milestones

John Hernandez, San Patricio County Engineer, updated the court on construction progress for the Justice Center. Hernandez said the most recent payout to contractor Fulton was about $3.3 million and that the project is approximately 71% complete. Permanent power to the site has been established, which will allow commissioning of HVAC systems, chillers and boilers to begin.
Hernandez described ongoing interior work (metal stud framing on the third floor, gypsum board and priming on the first and second floors), continued masonry, and partial window installation. He said the project team is coordinating modular furniture, audiovisual equipment and a keying/access-control schedule; the sheriff will lead zone-access decisions for the building. Hernandez said the project remains on track for early-summer completion, and commissioners were invited to review the hard-copy schedule and project photos.
A commissioner asked about outstanding big-ticket items; Hernandez said major equipment (a switchgear and generators) are on site and that local furniture vendors are producing modular pieces for the courthouse fit-out.
