Justice Center project 87% complete after $1.8M payout, engineer says

John A. Hernandez, P.E., the county project engineer, told the San Patricio County Commissioners Court that the Justice Center construction project is roughly 87% complete following an approximately $1.8 million progress payment this month. "The monthly payout for this month is approximately 1,800,000 and that'll bring the project completion to about 87% complete," Hernandez said.
Hernandez said consultants from the DLR group made a site visit and were generally pleased with progress. He described remaining work on the third floor—sheetrock installation and primer—as the critical path and said elevators are currently being assembled and should be operational in the coming weeks. He also said first-floor office furniture installation is tentatively scheduled for May 19 and that departments will bring portable workstations to reduce costs.
Contractor and project representatives said coordination has improved in recent weeks and department heads are taking tours to plan move-ins. Commissioners did not vote on any immediate contract changes during the update but were invited to tour the site.
The court did not take further action at the meeting; Hernandez said county staff will continue coordination with the general contractor and consultants to keep the project on schedule.
