Bradley County Commission approves consent agenda as mayor presents FY 2026–27 budget for review

The Bradley County Commission met in regular session at the Bradley County Courthouse on March 16, 2026. Chairman Thomas L. Crye called the meeting to order at noon and a roll call recorded 14 commissioners present, establishing a quorum.
Commissioner Josh Rogers moved to approve the March 2 minutes; Commissioner Bobby Goins seconded. The motion carried on a unanimous roll‑call vote of 14–0. Commissioner Mike Hughes then moved to approve Mayor D. Gary Davis’s recommendation to reappoint Dee Burris to the Board of Zoning Appeals; Commissioner Goins seconded and the Commission approved the reappointment by unanimous vote.
Mayor D. Gary Davis distributed the proposed fiscal year 2026–27 county budget for commissioners’ review. After preliminary discussion about the scale of changes required to pass the budget as presented, Mayor Davis for the record noted that most commissioners had no comment: "Let the Record Show, there was No Comments by 11 out of 14 People," he said.
The Commission next approved a consent agenda that bundled the committee recommendations and a set of attachments. The consent package included multiple budget amendments (Finance, Trustee's Office, Agriculture Extension, Juvenile Court, Medical Examiner, numerous Sheriff's Office amendments, EMS) and requests to dispose of county vehicles and equipment largely from the Road Department. Records attached to the consent agenda included standard 'Change of Vehicle Status' forms (with approvals by Road Department head Tom Collins), budget amendment forms, and lists of notaries to be elected.
The meeting contained no separate agenda business items; Chairman Crye adjourned the session at 12:34 p.m.
Why this matters: By approving the consent agenda, the Commission cleared a large set of departmental requests that will be incorporated into county financial records and allowed staff and departments to proceed with the administrative steps tied to those approvals. The mayor’s budget submission begins the formal review process for the 2026–27 fiscal year.
