Zach Owens (West Village BID) said the document is a community‑driven guidance framework, not a final construction plan; it is intended to organize priorities and to be used in future capital funding requests. Philip Dugdale of Sasaki described design goals including strengthened gateway treatments, curb bump‑outs and raised crosswalks to shorten pedestrian crossing distances, flexible amenity strips for trees and furniture, and a protected bike lane that meanders and uses subtle grade changes and rumble strips at cross‑streets to calm cyclists approaching intersections.
The presenters emphasized incremental implementation — tactical interventions first with opportunities to pursue concrete capital work later — and said the team had conducted two years of engagement, open houses and targeted outreach to businesses and residents. Board members and public commenters welcomed the greening and pedestrian safety emphasis but asked for continued outreach to ensure loading, deliveries and emergency access are preserved in each sub‑area. The BID said it will release the full report publicly and continue outreach and follow up with the board.
