Hamilton board spotlights student achievements, Pre‑Apprenticeship and College Credit programs

Superintendent Andrea Blevins introduced Liam Steele, a Hamilton High senior who will graduate next month with both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree through the district’s early college program and Miami’s Upward Bound support. "He will be studying public administration," Blevins said, and noted Steele’s selection as a Global Gateway scholar and upcoming study‑abroad opportunity.
Miss Weisbro and fine-arts staff recognized the Hamilton High Varsity Winter Guard for finishing in the top 20 at the WGI World Championship in Dayton, calling the result a first for the school and naming coaches and the 12 students who competed. Board members invited the team to be recognized on stage and awarded the district’s "Hamilton Way" bracelet.
Administrators and guest presenters also described the district’s pre‑apprenticeship program, which a presenter said is recognized by the State of Ohio for construction, manufacturing, agriculture, architecture and engineering pathways and offers hands‑on work with local employers and credentialing pathways. "They're ready to go right into the workforce right now and today," the presenter said, urging local employers to hire program graduates.
The board celebrated additional student successes: a student described earning a perfect PSAT score and National Merit recognition, and the board honored Caitlin for winning local and state rounds of the VFW Voice of Democracy contest and advancing to nationals. The board and administrators framed these items as outcomes of district supports, partnerships and extracurricular programming.
Blevins also previewed upcoming senior events (senior last day May 8; graduation Thursday, May 14, at 7:30 a.m.) and noted broad participation in honors and extracurricular competitions. The board did not modify program approvals at the meeting; curricular and program agreements (including a College Credit Plus agreement with Sinclair for next year) appeared on the consent agenda for approval.
