Board approves personnel recommendations and endorses new principal for Madison Elementary

The Ohio County Board of Education unanimously approved the personnel recommendations presented at its April 27 meeting, including the district’s nomination of Nick Irvin to become the 220‑day principal at Madison Elementary School effective Aug. 6.

After the board convened an executive session to discuss a personnel matter ‘‘pursuant to West Virginia code section 9 a-4 b number 2,’’ members reconvened and reported that no decisions were made during the executive session. Dr. Miller then presented her personnel recommendations and asked the board to welcome the recommended candidate.

Dr. Miller said she was "very happy to recognize to recommend Mr. Nick Irvin, who is being recommended for a position as a 220‑day principal assigned to Madison Elementary School effective August 6." Mr. Irvin addressed the board and thanked Dr. Miller, Mr. Jones and the board for the opportunity. "I can't think of a more fantastic gift than to become the next principal of Madison Elementary," he said.

The board moved to accept the personnel recommendations (the chair recorded a first from Bernie and a second from Anne). After no further discussion, members voted "aye," and the motion passed unanimously.

Board members offered congratulations to Mr. Irvin and to all nominees recognized earlier in the meeting; the board then continued with other business.

The personnel motion was recorded as passing unanimously; the executive session was reported to have produced no decisions, and Mr. Irvin’s appointment is effective Aug. 6 per Dr. Miller's recommendation.
