Clayton County housing authority pitches homeownership path, rebrands to 'Develop Clayton'

Jones said the authority aims to establish a path to homeownership through financial‑literacy training, pre‑purchase and post‑purchase counseling and targeted grants. The authority provides one month of rent, mortgage or utility assistance for qualified Clayton County residents and a program that offers up to $10,000 in grant funds to support repairs to older housing stock. Jones said the authority is self‑funded and will rebrand as "Develop Clayton" beginning April 1 to reduce confusion between the two county housing organizations.
Jones described a regional housing task force engaging the county's seven cities and said the Atlanta Regional Commission provided funding to produce a comprehensive housing assessment and strategy the task force commissioned. He offered the authority's resources, facilities and communications support to Forest Park staff and invited partnership on outreach and developer engagement.
Board members welcomed the presentation and asked for periodic updates; staff suggested the housing task force would address many of the zoning and development concerns raised by local developers.
The presentation emphasized partnership, education for potential homeowners and targeted interventions aimed at raising homeownership rates in the county.
