Mayor says congressional appropriations include nearly $2 million for Hawthorne sewer projects; Senate approval pending

Mayor Lane told the borough council that congressional appropriations have included $1,992,000 in potential funding for Hawthorne to address a Lincoln Avenue sewer line repair and improvements to the Wigler Road sewer pump station.
“To my knowledge, the borough has not previously received any federal funding of this magnitude,” Mayor Lane said, and he cautioned that the measure had passed the House and that Senate approval was still pending. He said there was no definitive timeline for receipt of funds.
Lane said he had discussed potential capital projects with the borough administrator and that he had initially requested $2,000,000 as a slate of candidate projects for federal consideration. He asked council members to remain prepared to act on project planning and implementation once the borough receives official notice.
Separately, Lane reported a construction-site compliance matter on Golfo Road where a developer removed part of an existing wall to create a driveway without permits; the developer later paid fines, secured the required permit and the stop work order was lifted on Jan. 16, according to the mayor.
The mayor’s comments explain potential federal support for local infrastructure, but he emphasized the appropriation’s Senate step and the lack of a guaranteed schedule for funding arrival.
