Crawford County Board approves hires, tax abatement and proclamation; authorizes private counsel

The Crawford County Board of Supervisors met April 21 and approved a series of administrative actions, including personnel hires, a tax abatement and a proclamation.
Chair Craig Dozark presided over the meeting. The board approved the minutes from prior meetings and the Clerk of Court fees for March 2026. The board also approved multiple seasonal hires in the Conservation Department and parks: Kambri Head, Ty Fink and Ashlyn Dionicio as seasonal naturalist interns; Tyler Mullin, Austin Brummer, Morgan Wood, Quinton Juhl and Noah Hilpipre as seasonal park attendants; and Violet Christensen as a Dow House tour guide. The board approved hiring Yicel Vrieze as a part-time Home Health/Hospice Nurse in the Public Health department.
Pattie Ritchie and representatives of the Student Government of Denison Job Corps asked the board to adopt a "Job Corps Is Open Day" proclamation. Supervisor Schultz moved to approve the proclamation; Supervisor Heiden seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The board canvassed votes cast in the City of Charter Oak special election held April 14, 2026; canvass copies and abstracts are available in the Auditor's Office. Separately, Supervisor Schultz moved and Supervisor Muhlbauer seconded a motion approving a tax abatement for Section 31 Otter Creek NE Quarter for Bryce and Regan Blunk related to a new basement and pre-fabricated home; the motion passed unanimously.
Supervisor Heiden moved and Supervisor Schultz seconded a motion to retain private counsel in case CVCV043776 and to authorize Chair Craig Dozark to sign documents after clarity is sought; the motion passed unanimously.
At 1:05 p.m. the board entered a closed session under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(a) for continuity-of-operations/government matters and reconvened at 1:19 p.m. The board adjourned at 1:20 p.m.
