Cedar Fort council approves minutes, fire‑station garage doors, shelters and radio purchases

Cedar Fort — The Town Council on April 21 approved routine minutes and several purchases aimed at keeping the town’s volunteer fire department operational.
Mayor Wyatt Cook convened the meeting at 7:10 p.m. after a roll call that showed Councilmen Eric Boud and Alex Carter present. The council unanimously approved the March 16 and March 24 meeting minutes on motions by Councilman Alex Carter and Councilman Eric Boud, respectively.
The council then approved three purchases for the fire station. Councilman Alex Carter moved to accept a bid from A plus garage door for $4,447 to replace station garage doors; Councilman Eric Boud seconded and the motion passed unanimously. During discussion members said the bids were comparable in scope and that the lowest bid provided the best value.
The council approved replacing four aging wildland fire shelters. Fire Chief Kale Black told the council shelters are mandatory for personnel with red-card certification, are single-use once deployed and that the department’s existing shelters are past recommended lifespans. Councilman Eric Boud moved to purchase four shelters from Fire Penny for $2,305.25; Councilman Alex Carter seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Town staff said the shelters will be purchased up front by the Town and reimbursed through a state grant, with the Town possibly covering minor overages of about $100.
Council members also approved buying a BKR 5000 wildland radio not to exceed $3,000 after discussion about compatibility with regional systems and grant limits. The motion was made by Councilman Eric Boud, seconded by Councilman Alex Carter, and passed unanimously.
On a separate item, the council authorized Councilman Alex Carter to pursue a civic partnership with the Valley Crossroads Chamber, exchanging community-use opportunities in return for civic partnership benefits; that motion also passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
