Kewanee City Council approves alley vacation, several demolition contracts and routine bills

The Kewanee City Council on April 8 approved routine business and a set of land- and property-related measures by unanimous votes.

A motion by Councilmember Faber to approve the consent agenda — including March 25 meeting minutes, closed-session minutes, payroll totaling $203,957.15 and staff reports — was seconded by Councilmember Komnick and passed 5-0. Council also approved payment of bills totaling $748,179.01 on a 5-0 vote after a motion by Councilmember Baker and a second from Councilmember Colomer.

On new business the council approved an ordinance to vacate a public alley in the block bounded by Rice Street, North West Street, West Sixth Street and West Seventh Street (Bill 24-23). Councilmember Komnick moved the ordinance; Councilmember Colomer seconded. The motion passed 5-0.

The council also awarded demolition contracts: Bill 24-24 awarded demolition work at 900 Wilbur Street to Ratliff Bros. & Co. Inc. after a motion by Councilmember Baker and a second by Councilmember Faber; Bill 24-25 awarded demolition at 404 E Tenth Street to Martin Bros. & Co. Inc., moved by Councilmember Colomer and seconded by Councilmember Komnick; and Bill 24-26 awarded demolition at 312 Helmer Street to Martin Bros. & Co. Inc., moved by Councilmember Baker and seconded by Councilmember Komnick. All demolition motions passed 5-0.

The meeting record shows no substantive discussion or public controversy recorded on these votes. The council adjourned following brief communications and a reminder from Councilmember Faber about keeping grass clippings out of the street.
