Beaver Area School District advances multiple policy readings, approves musical contract and confidential settlement

At its Oct. 28 meeting the Beaver Area School District board moved a package of policy updates forward in the review process, approved school event contracts and ratified a confidential settlement agreement.

The board scheduled second readings for revised policies including 314 (Physical Examination), 903 (Public Comment in Board Meetings) and 909 (Municipal Government Relations), and listed retirements for a set of health-related policies. The board also scheduled a second reading for a newly proposed policy, 146.1 (Trauma‑Informed Approach), indicating the district is considering formal adoption of trauma-informed guidance for schools.

Why it matters: Policy revisions set governance and operational expectations for staff and the public; a trauma-informed policy would establish district guidance for supporting students affected by trauma if adopted.

Contract actions approved under the consent agenda included a Music Theatre International agreement to present an amateur production of The Drowsy Chaperone March 14–16, 2025 with associated royalties and materials totaling $5,230, and a rental agreement with Three Rivers Hammocks for a portable mini golf course for Dutch Ridge on Feb. 14–15, 2025 for $1,200.

The board also approved a confidential settlement agreement and release between the district and Raphael's School of Beauty Culture as an alternative to the Beaver County Career and Technical Center cosmetology program for the 2024–25 school year; the agreement was recorded as confidential in the minutes and approved as part of the consent agenda. The board additionally approved the Frye Transportation Group drivers list pending required clearances; the agenda had been revised earlier to remove one individual's name from that list.
