Resident urges CCRPC to revisit comment on Higher Ground Act 250 application, calling out traffic and pedestrian safety

Susan Hurd of Burlington used the TAC’s public comment period on Feb. 2 to press the CCRPC to revisit its comment letter on The Burton Corporation’s Act 250 application for the Higher Ground project on Queen City Park Road.
Hurd said the site contains many facilities with only minimal screening and that a one-lane bridge serves an estimated 500–600 vehicles, including large trucks entering and exiting. She said there is no sidewalk, crosswalk, bike lanes, or shoulders and noted a large amount of on-site parking with no plans to add parking; she said event arrivals could create concentrated peak demand. “Don’t put profit over people,” she told the TAC and asked CCRPC staff to visit the site in person and review the traffic analysis.
Eleni Churchill, CCRPC transportation program manager, said CCRPC is preparing a response to similar comments made at a recent Board meeting and that she will include Hurd on that response. The minutes record that Hurd will submit her comments by email to CCRPC staff.
The comment raises traffic safety and pedestrian-access concerns that staff said would be addressed in CCRPC’s forthcoming response; the minutes do not record any further action or a staff timeline for site visits.
