TAC approves expedited TIP amendment to add TIGER IV funds for Burlington rail crossing safety project

The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission’s Transportation Advisory Committee on Feb. 2 approved an expedited amendment to the FY2021 Transportation Improvement Program to add funding for rail crossing safety improvements at College Street in Burlington.
The amendment was presented as a minor TIP change not subject to the CCRPC’s fiscal constraint and intended to meet an October 1, 2021 deadline for using federal TIGER IV funds tied to the Burlington Train Station Platform. Staff said VTrans intends to bid the project on Feb. 10, so the Board will be asked to approve the amendment virtually prior to the regular Commission meeting.
Barbara Elliott moved to approve the proposed TIP amendment, and Justin Rabidoux seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The TAC recorded the action as an expedited amendment because of the VTrans bid schedule.
The change will allow the Burlington rail crossing safety work to proceed toward advertisement; staff did not provide a line-item budget in the meeting minutes. The Board is scheduled to act virtually to finalize the amendment before the February Commission meeting.
