Summary
At a special April 30 meeting, the Deming Public Schools Board approved four procurement awards — Bid 25-01 (food and related items), Bid 25-03 (student nutrition), RFP 25-04 (occupational therapy) and RFP 25-05 (psychological services) — to secure district vendors and maintain service continuity.
The Deming Public Schools Board approved several vendor awards during a special meeting on April 30 to secure services for food, student nutrition and ancillary therapy supports.
The board took up Bid 25-01, which covers food-related and non-food classroom supplies, concession stands and fundraising items. The district’s Superintendent described the contract as a way “so if we need to go and and buy some small things at the end of the [term], is what this is for,” and said the award is intended to let schools make small purchases without separate approvals.
Board members also considered Bid 25-03 for student nutrition supplies. The Superintendent explained the district issues student nutrition contracts on a four-year cycle beginning July 1 and that vendors may request price changes only for market reasons such as freight or fuel increases. “We did have an increase in prices … easily justified” in prior years, the Superintendent said when discussing past adjustments.
The board approved RFP 25-04 for occupational therapy after staff noted the prior provider was unable to continue for staffing reasons. During the discussion a board member asked staff to clarify the tabulation form so it separates scoring from dollar totals; the member said the current layout can make an award look like it favors higher dollar amounts because of where the total appears on the form.
RFP 25-05 for psychological services was also approved. The Superintendent said the district runs ancillary services on a rotating four-year procurement schedule and that awarded vendors must be able to provide ongoing services for the contract term.
Each award was moved, seconded and approved by the members present. No formal protests or public comments were offered during the meeting.
The board’s clerk recorded the affirmative votes for the motions and each item passed. The board said the special meeting was held to finalize outstanding bids and RFPs quickly so vendors could be notified and services secured.
