Rhonda (city staff) said one repair instance totaled roughly $8,060 after multiple repairs; TK Elevator agreed to cover one repair in good faith but two additional repairs were estimated at about $1,000 and $4,000. Staff said the current basic maintenance plan provides limited coverage and recommended evaluating higher-level plans that include parts, labor and a digital monitoring option so the vendor can diagnose issues in real time. One council member noted the contract’s draft term and automatic five-year renewals give the city only a narrow window to cancel, and counsel suggested the city prefer an opt-in renewal rather than an opt-out auto-renewal.
Council members asked staff to return with a clearer breakdown of what each maintenance tier covers (parts, labor, response time) and answers to questions about cancellation windows and cure options. Staff said they would obtain the vendor’s responses and a tier-by-tier comparison for council consideration before making a binding commitment.
