Library staff explained the American Library Association provided a $10,000 grant to make the circulation desk and related elements more accessible. An initial bid from Crow and Timber was reported at about $9,300; after design adjustments a revised figure of $6,500 was provided. Because the work needed to be completed within the grant timeline, staff proceeded and asked the council to ratify the additional $2,000 over the administrative threshold. A council member moved to approve the change order and the motion passed.
Staff said the remainder of the grant was used for accessible computer chairs, acrylic organizers and signage. The work was completed within the total grant award and staff stated the decision averted jeopardizing the grant timetable.
