Nevada council approves low bid and contract steps for N Avenue reconstruction

City staff told the council their cost estimate for the project was “about $970,000,” and said the low bid from Castor came in at “about $870,000,” with the highest bid around $1,035,000, according to city staff. Staff said the low bid was roughly $100,000 under the city estimate and near last year’s average prices. A council member moved to approve the contract; the motion passed by voice vote.
During discussion council members asked whether the contractor had worked locally before and whether the low price raised questions. Staff said the firm had not worked for the city previously but had references from other nearby projects and that the bid was close to the city’s estimate. Staff said they will send contract documents to the contractor after council approval and return at a subsequent meeting to finalize the contract and the preconstruction schedule.
The action advances the N Avenue reconstruction toward construction this season; staff noted scheduling will avoid major local events and that more detailed start dates will be set after contract execution.
