Superintendent Dr. Rice explained how classification and ADM (average daily membership) are calculated and why the practices cited by the board member create discrepancies in competition. He used a hypothetical example showing how students attending an early college and counted in ADM can change a school's classification and therefore its competition division.
Board members and district staff discussed advocacy channels, including athletic directors (ADs) and member-driven association votes. Dr. Jones and athletic staff noted ADs can raise concerns at district and state-level AD meetings; the board asked staff to begin drafting language for the board to consider.
No formal vote on a resolution occurred at the meeting; members agreed to pursue drafting and outreach.
