Summary
At its March 25 meeting the Union County Public Schools Facilities Committee unanimously recommended forwarding a Pixellot no‑cost streaming camera agreement, a $483,200 HVAC rooftop unit bid, a one‑year sole‑source renewal with Interstate Solutions, and $357,643.19 in flooring quotes to the full Board of Education; staff also provided a bond and construction update.
The Union County Public Schools Facilities Committee on March 25 recommended that the full Board of Education consider several procurement and property items, including a no‑cost multi‑year Pixellot agreement to install streaming cameras at two middle‑school baseball fields, a lowest responsive HVAC rooftop unit bid at Monroe High School, a one‑year sole‑source renewal for chemical supplies, and flooring replacement quotes for two elementary schools.
Moore told the committee the Pixellot supplemental agreement would place streaming cameras at Parkwood Middle School and Marvin Ridge Middle School baseball fields. "These are our streaming cameras. It's a no cost contract, but it is a multi year contract, which is what requires the board approval," Moore said. He confirmed both locations have the required electrical and network infrastructure.
Emel presented the HVAC bid results for Monroe High School, saying three contractors submitted bids on March 16. "Carolina Air Solutions submitted the lowest responsive bid in the amount of $483,200, to be funded by the CIP expansion and renovation and then a little bit of savings to cover the difference in the amount of $33,200," Emel said. The committee voted to forward the recommended award to the full board.
McManus presented a sole‑source renewal request for Interstate Solutions for chemical supplies, noting the district has used the vendor previously and that staff is asking for a one‑year extension under the sole‑source justification. McManus said the pricing attachments for '25 and '26 are included in the packet. The committee recommended the renewal be considered by the full board.
On flooring, McManus reported quotes from Shaw (a vendor on the North Carolina state contract) to replace flooring at Unionville Elementary (K–1 hallway and main hallway) and Marvin Elementary (main hallways, media center and cafeteria) with a combined total of $357,643.19 from FY '26 funds. "We need it's time to replace the flooring," McManus said; the committee voted to forward the quotes.
Emel also provided a bond update: the Forest Hills barn project was put out to bid March 23, demolition and selective demolition continues in Areas B and C, masonry work has begun in the kitchen, steel studs are up in the dining area and crews poured approximately 134 yards of concrete for the kitchen and dining area. Emel said the barn will be used in the agricultural program for goat breeding and animal care.
All of the procurement and property items discussed were forwarded to the full Board of Education by committee voice votes recorded as unanimous where stated (committee recorded support as 4–0 on multiple items). Several items were informational only, including two vehicles recommended for surplus inventory. The committee adjourned and scheduled its next meeting for April 29 at 9 a.m. via Zoom.
