City manager details spring and summer infrastructure, utility and paving plans; notes staff changes

City Manager Allen Dressler provided the council with updates on ongoing and planned infrastructure, utility and procurement work during the March 3 Covington work session.
Dressler said staff are coordinating with regional partners and pursuing funding opportunities for capital projects and utility system improvements, and that coordination with Columbia Gas is ongoing for upcoming infrastructure work. He warned residents that projects may cause temporary disruptions but said the work is necessary to support long-term reliability of water, wastewater and landfill operations.
Dressler also outlined current procurement and bid activity intended to keep projects on schedule as the fiscal year end approaches. He noted a recent retirement in the accounting department and the departure of another employee; he expressed appreciation for their service. On paving, Dressler said the city will combine locally funded paving with additional funding anticipated through the Virginia Department of Transportation to address key roadways this season.
With no further business, Vice Mayor Raymond C. Hunter moved to adjourn; Councilwoman Susan S. Crowder seconded the motion and council members voted "aye." The meeting was adjourned.
