Flat Rock council hears monthly reports, schedules budget workshop and approves property use for Carl Sandburg event

The council received routine reports and a series of community updates during the March 12 meeting.
Administrator Patricia Christie reviewed recent zoning and operations reports, web and social metrics, EV charging-station usage (268 kWh; $40 utility cost for the last 30 days; session fees $32.14), and the status of the King Creek RFP and FEMA public assistance conversations. The packet’s ordinances activity report summarized compliance certificates, permits, and ongoing zoning work such as recombination plats and variance hearings.
Council Member Jeter moved, and council approved, a request by the Friends of Carl Sandburg to use the Village Hall property for a welcome event in July to honor the incoming superintendent. Chief Will Sheehan of Blue Ridge Fire & Rescue offered department property for parking at the event.
Budget Officer Toner asked council members to submit proposed FY 2026–27 figures by the March 30 agenda meeting; a budget workshop is scheduled for April 9 following the regular council meeting. Other council reports included meeting schedules for the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment, discussion of a kudzu spraying program scheduled for June 4, 2026, and invitations to community events such as a Behavioral Health Conference on March 23, 2026.
The meeting adjourned at 10:55 a.m. after a motion by Council Member Carpenter and second by Council Member Stuller.
