Committee hears park project updates and event schedule for Riverview Park

Parks staff briefed the committee on ongoing park projects and a slate of upcoming events at Riverview Park.
Richard Blankenship, Parks and Recreation director, said Riverview Park work is progressing and that the Main Street Boat Ramp will go out to bid soon amid boater complaints about dredging and trailer parking. “We will be going out to bid very soon,” Blankenship said, noting dredging and parking are issues at the ramp.
Blankenship also reported the city has completed a tree canopy survey and plans to present results at the June meeting. Committee members provided short park status reports — Barber Street Playground received additional picnic benches, Kildare Park bridge is in good repair, Bark Park equipment shows rust at the base and Easy Street picnic tables may need pressure washing.
Blankenship listed upcoming Riverview Park events including National Day of Prayer on May 7, a craft show on May 9 and a summer kickoff concert on June 5. The committee adjourned after a reminder that a special meeting in May for playground design review is possible.
