Board to move Veterans Memorial brick program to Parks; staff suggests raising public price

“Because of future anticipated expenses for expanding the memorial space and installation labor, staff recommend the program be overseen by Parks and Recreation,” Staff member said, adding that oversight will better align funds and responsibilities.
Staff proposed increasing the public price of an engraved brick from $25 to $100 to recover installation and processing labor (engraving had been $20 per brick). Staff reported that 24–25 bricks were sold after recent outreach and that engraving costs for 24 pending bricks total about $480; those sales will be held as unallocated funds until further budget accounting. No formal board vote was required for the report; staff framed the item as an informational update and asked for questions.
Board members asked clarifying questions about which board would expend funds for expansion, and staff said if a bond election passes funds from Parks could be used for expansion. The board did not adopt a formal fee change at the meeting but was briefed on the proposed increase and the operational reasons for the transfer of oversight.
