La Grange moves to seek federal surface-transportation grants for four street projects

Trustee Thompson presented the four applications — Burlington Avenue (Brainerd to LaGrange Road, estimated $2,000,475), Hillgrove Avenue (Gilbert to Ogden, estimated $6,000,145), Brainerd Avenue (47th to 55th, estimated $4,000,545) and Kensington/Ashland (Hillgrove to Ogden, estimated $1,235,000). He said the Central Council of Mayors requires a 30% local match if a project is awarded and that the village would consider the funding commitment before entering into any grant agreement.
Trustees discussed prioritization and scheduling; staff said projects would be programmed for federal fiscal years 2028–2030 if selected and that being placed on a contingency list sometimes results in a later award if other projects fall behind. Trustee Augustine asked whether Burlington resurfacing could extend to Ogden Avenue; staff said adjacent projects and previous STP awards affect how sections are proposed and designed.
Board action: each resolution to authorize an STP application was moved and seconded and passed by roll-call vote; the clerk recorded the measures as passing unanimously.
What happens next: staff will submit grant applications and, if awards are made, bring funding commitments and design/task orders back to the board for final approval and inclusion in upcoming capital budgets.
