Milton Planning Commission elects new leaders, forwards 2026 work plan to council

The Milton Planning Commission conducted officer elections and routine business on March 11. After nominations the commission elected Commissioner Oler as chair for 2026 and Commissioner Johnson as vice chair for 2026. The commission also approved the minutes of Dec. 10, 2025, and voted to recommend its 2026 work plan to the city council.

Why it matters: Leadership changes shape how the commission advances topics such as the proposed tree code, zoning updates and design standards. The approved work plan lists priorities including the tree-code update, landscaping and parking standards, and potential subarea planning tied to a grant for the 99 corridor.

What happened: Nominations were opened for chair and vice chair. A voice vote elected Commissioner Oler as chair (commissioners reported five in favor). Nominations and a subsequent voice vote elected Commissioner Johnson as vice chair (reported 3–2). A motion to approve the Dec. 10, 2025 minutes passed 5–0. Later in the meeting the commission moved, seconded and voted 5–0 to forward the draft 2026 planning commission work plan to the city council as presented in the packet. The staff package will be prepared for council review and a study session is tentatively planned in April or May.

The meeting also included staff reports: planning staff said permit technician Jaden will leave at month’s end and staff will post the vacancy; a neighborhood meeting on the proposed new fire station will be held March 30 at 5:30 p.m.

The commission adjourned at 8:02 p.m. with the next regular meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 8 at 6:00 p.m.
