Commission approves minutes; staff announce hires, pool closure and May events

The Boulder City Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously approved the minutes of its Jan. 27 meeting during its March 24 session, the chair announced. The motion to approve was made, seconded and carried; the chair said the finalized minutes will be signed after approval.
Director Julie Galloway recognized Sierra Beggs/Biggs as the department's new full‑time aquatics coordinator and congratulated staff involved in website and special‑event preparations. Aquatics Coordinator Sierra Beggs told commissioners that eight new lifeguards began this month and another lifeguard class is planned for April; adaptive swim lessons have enrolled two families in their first month.
Beggs said the pool will be closed at about 5 p.m. on May 2 after swim team concludes and will remain closed through the morning of May 19 for "bubble down" maintenance; a soft reopening will precede a full summer opening over Memorial Day weekend.
Galloway also briefed commissioners on golf course operations: rounds and revenues are holding steady, a turf‑reduction water‑conservation design for the municipal course is in final stages and will be bid for construction with a planned November start that will temporarily close nine holes at a time. She noted that staff is marketing the pavilion for rentals and that the NCAA Division II golf national championships are scheduled at Boulder Creek May 12–17.
Commissioners reported several community events: the Boulder City Police Department's 60th anniversary celebration (location adjacent to Escalante Park) with displays and family activities, a beer festival and the IPOF car show, as well as the department's summer bash on May 17 and an Easter egg hunt April 12 at Wilbur Square. The commission set its May meeting for the third Monday, May 19.
There were no public comments at either comment opportunity; the chair adjourned the meeting.
