Boulder City to phase Del Prado playground upgrades; pool design team narrowed to four firms

Boulder City Parks and Recreation Director Julie Galloway said March 24 that the city will install new playground equipment and safety surfacing at Del Prado Park in a phased approach and that a committee has narrowed responses for a new swimming‑pool design to four firms.

Galloway told the commission the department placed signs with QR codes at Del Prado to collect public feedback; staff received more than 40 responses that informed the scope. She said the first phase will remove existing equipment and sand safety surfacing on the side closest to Utah Street and install new surfacing and equipment "in the next couple of months," pending timely delivery of the ordered equipment.

On the pool project, Galloway said the city issued a request for qualifications, received nine submissions and has shortlisted four firms. "We've narrowed it down to four, and next week, we will be meeting with four design firms," she said. The project committee will select the firm that best fits the city's needs, she added.

Galloway also addressed the city's pickleball courts: construction was pushed from mid‑March to mid‑April and is expected to take about 90 days; she cited contractor scheduling and March weather conditions as factors in the delay. "Last I heard, it was mid April," she said when asked about a firm start date.

The updates come as the department works to balance project scope with rising costs; Galloway said park improvements will be completed in phases rather than full overhauls to manage budget constraints. She asked commissioners to review forthcoming procedural updates to commission rules and procedures, which staff is coordinating with the city clerk and city attorney.
