The Town of Babylon Planning Board on March 30 considered a special‑permit request for Saki Asia to expand into two adjacent tenant spaces at an existing shopping center and increase seating to a total of 126.
Architect Matthew Bush told the board the proposed expansion would add roughly 3,400 square feet for 10 hibachi tables and dining seating. He corrected an earlier memorandum and said the existing restaurant currently has 63 dining seats and 18 bar seats; the expansion would result in 126 seats in total. Bush said the shopping center’s fire alarm and full sprinkler system will be modified to serve the expanded space.
Bush said zoning calculations produce a parking requirement of 542 spaces while the site contains 479 spaces, so the applicant will apply to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a parking variance. He said the lot is seldom full and the applicant does not expect overlapping peak demand to create problems. Hours of operation were described as 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. for lunch and dinner.
No members of the public spoke on the Saki Asia application. The board closed the public hearing and reserved decision to permit staff to review outstanding items; the record remains open for written comments to planning.
