Swansgate Elementary solar array installed; district expects 25% energy savings and $200,000 reimbursement

Superintendent Kalser told the School Committee that the Swansgate Elementary School solar installation is complete and is pending activation by National Grid. The district anticipates approximately 25% savings on energy costs and said the town will receive a $200,000 reimbursement once the system is fully activated.
Kalser also said the district met with the town administrator and, because of a separate statement-of-interest at the middle school, the district elected to hold off on a $200,000 capital project, reducing the district’s capital budget request.
The chair and members characterized the solar installation as ‘‘long time coming’’ and a positive step for both school operations and town finances. The committee did not take a formal vote on capital reallocations at the meeting; the superintendent said staff would proceed with final scheduling and utility activation steps and notified the committee of expected savings and reimbursement timing.
