Council narrows scope of Lantern Lane motor-fuel-tax project to save funds for other needs

Public-works staff recommended trimming the scope of an overlayment project on Lantern Lane and adding a culvert at the Roger Drive turn lane to reduce immediate expenditure of motor-fuel-tax (MFT) funds.
Cody and other staff described the area needing targeted repairs and proposed narrowing the work to focus on the most cost-effective patches and adding a culvert to address a drainage problem at the end of the road. The staff presentation said IDOT guidelines will govern use of MFT funds.
"My recommendation would be narrowing the scope of the project... possibly down to maybe a 100,000," the staff presenter said, explaining the intent to reserve some MFT funds for other future needs.
Councilors expressed conditional agreement and asked staff to provide a written recommendation for the Monday meeting so the committee can make a formal recommendation to the council. No contract award or formal vote took place tonight; staff will return with a written scope and cost estimate.
The item remains scheduled for further action next week and will be considered alongside the preliminary budget and other capital priorities.
