Representatives of the KBM Tournament of Champions addressed the Washington City Council on Sept. 15 to thank the city for long-standing support and to describe the event’s growth and local economic impact.
"On behalf of a large group of volunteers, over 32 committee members and a board of directors, we thank Washington for all they've done," Mr. Schermerhorn told the council. He described the tournament as a 20-year partnership with the city, noting this year’s field of 24 teams from 13 states, multi-day programming and significant local business participation.
Schermerhorn highlighted community benefits beyond basketball: clinics that reach hundreds of kids, fundraising tied to KB Strong and a Thanksgiving fellowship that brings athletes and volunteers together. He invited the council to a social at Countryside on Oct. 7 at 5:30 p.m.
Mayor Lillia V. Stevens and several aldermen thanked the presenters for bringing visitors and publicity to Washington, citing hotel occupancy and increased restaurant business during tournament week. No action was required; the presentation served as recognition and outreach.
