The Washington City Council voted Sept. 15 to award a rebid contract for repair of the Candlewood Bridge to Illinois Civil Contractors Inc. for $516,310.87.
Interim City Administrator Carr told the council the project was rebid after the first solicitation produced only one bidder. "We put it out for a rebid, and we changed the pavement type from asphalt to concrete," Carr said, and the second solicitation returned three bids with Illinois Civil Contractors the low bidder at $516,310.87.
Carr said the city budgeted $500,000 in the Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) fund but that the MFT fund "does have enough to cover the overage." Councilmember Smith moved to approve the contract; the motion was seconded and the council voted unanimously to award the contract.
Carr said staff will coordinate with the contractor and with IDOT on a construction schedule; timing may depend on weather and working-day limitations. The council did not set a start date at the meeting.
The vote completes the formal award; staff will return with any required contract documents and a project schedule once those details are settled.
