Wayne County board approves modest FY27 pay increases, sets sheriff’s salary at $101,500

The Wayne County Board of Supervisors voted Jan. 6 to approve a package of FY27 pay increases and to set the county sheriff’s salary at $101,500.

Supervisor Lance Lange moved to adopt a 3% increase for supervisors and the county’s elected administrative offices and to set the sheriff’s salary at $101,500; Supervisor Todd Wilson seconded. Chair Chris Moore recorded a "nay" vote, but the motion carried and was entered as Resolution 26-19.

Why it matters: the county Compensation Board, which met Dec. 29, 2025, had recommended larger percentage increases for some offices — including a 15.29% recommendation for the sheriff and a 9.29% recommendation for the county attorney — but the supervisors approved a smaller, uniform 3% raise for supervisors and most elected administrative positions while setting the sheriff’s pay at a specific dollar amount.

Details: the board approved the following FY27 pay outcomes as reflected in the meeting record: Supervisors (current $35,410.74) approved at 3% to $36,473.06; County Attorney approved at 3% to $64,001.10; Auditor, Recorder and Treasurer approved at 3% to $68,850.74 each; and Sheriff set to $101,500 (the Compensation Board had recommended a 15.29% increase). The Compensation Board’s recommendations were noted in the record but not adopted in full.

The vote: the motion to approve the package was moved by Supervisor Lance Lange and seconded by Supervisor Todd Wilson; Chair Chris Moore cast the lone recorded dissent when he voted "nay." No other recorded roll-call differences were noted in the meeting minutes.

Next steps: Resolution 26-19 formalizes the FY27 elected-official salary schedule for Wayne County; implementation will be reflected in payroll processes for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026.
