Spring Lake Management proposes lower camping and kayak fees, new docks and accessible kayak launch

Miss Maggie Griffiths, representing Spring Lake Management, presented the company's proposed 2026 pricing and a summary of recent and planned improvements at Spring Lake. Griffiths said tent camping without electricity will drop from $25 to $20 and that the fee for tent camping with electricity will be reduced from $30 to $25. "Another big thing, $10 an hour to kayak now. It was 15 last year," Griffiths said, noting the cut was intended to encourage more community use.
Griffiths listed camper activities (trick-or-treat, soup supper, bounce houses) and said Spring Lake hosted 23 teams in this year's bass-fishing tournament. She described recent maintenance and volunteer projects, said a grant will fund 12 new boat docks on the south end of the lake, and said the site plans to add a handicap kayak launch near the bait shop.
Alderman Vojetzky praised Spring Lake Management for improving park upkeep and attracting visitors who spend money locally. Alderman Hemingway specifically applauded the handicap kayak launch as a much-needed accessibility improvement. City staff confirmed the revised fee schedule will be placed on the agenda for final action before the next fiscal year and said staff will coordinate publicity for park activities, including the Scott Jennings fishing tournament.
The committee did not vote on the fee schedule today; it will return for final action at the scheduled council meeting.
