Benton County approves letter opposing Alliant Energy’s Morgan Valley plant

The Benton County Board of Supervisors voted April 21, 2026, to approve and sign a letter opposing Alliant Energy’s proposed Morgan Valley Energy Plant and to file copies with the Iowa Utilities Board, Alliant Energy and the City of Atkins.
Supervisor Bruce Volz moved to approve the letter and Chairman Tracy Seeman seconded; both voted aye and the motion carried. Later in the meeting residents Jane Scheer and another attendee from Linn County expressed gratitude to the board for drafting the letter.
The board did not detail substantive language of the letter on the record at the meeting; the action was recorded as an approved agenda item and a copy will be filed with the Iowa Utilities Board and the named recipients.
