The Lebanon City Council approved a special-use permit for a short-term rental at 10957 Tenfield Drive following a Plan Commission recommendation.
Jack Mitchell, speaking for the Plan Commission, said the commission recommended approval with conditions that the property abide by covenants, have no signage and limit parking to the street; the commission also called for an annual review of the permit. Council members moved, seconded and approved the permit on a roll call vote with no recorded opposition.
Commission and council discussion noted that, in the absence of a hotel in town, short-term rentals can provide lodging for university visitors and others, but commissioners said additional data (property use, tax base and demographics) would be preferable before considering a cap or stricter limits on rentals.
The council did not adopt any citywide cap on short-term rentals at this meeting and left broader policy questions for future study.
