The White House Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a 10-year reciprocal parking agreement that authorizes City Administrator Gerald Herman to enter an agreement with White House Church of Christ for a lump-sum payment of $75,000 to offset the church’s cost to repave its lot and allow shared use for overflow parking at large events.
City staff explained the church has historically provided overflow parking for city events and that repaving the church lot prompted a negotiated agreement to share costs and use. "This is something that Valerie and I have been working on for quite some time with the church and trying to come up with an agreement that we could have shared use of parking lots for large events that they may have or large events that we may have for overflow," the administrator said.
Councilors asked about the agreement’s defined high-volume hours: the draft lists high-volume hours as 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and several members said that peak demands now include nights, Fridays and Saturdays for youth basketball and other recreation. Board members also asked who on city staff would handle notifications for large events; recreation staff and a city point person (Kevin or the recreation supervisor) were suggested as coordinators. After discussion the board moved and voted to approve the agreement.
The motion authorizes the administrator to execute the reciprocal parking agreement; the transcript does not include a published copy of the contract or additional financial details beyond the lump-sum amount.
