Landowner Stacy Stoddard urges White House to remove Union Road reroute from growth plan, cites eminent-domain concern
Summary
At public comment, landowner Stacy Stoddard said a planned Union Road reroute would cut through her family's century-old dairy farm and asked the board to remove the reroute from the city's 20-year growth plan, saying prior city actions left her family worried about eminent domain.
Stacy Stoddard, a landowner in the City of White House, told the Board of Mayor and Aldermen during public comment that the city's proposed rerouting of Union Road would cut through a portion of her family's dairy farm and asked the council to remove that routing from the city’s 20-year growth plan.
"My name is Stacy Stoddard, and I am here today as a concerned land owner in response to the the city's proposed rerouting of Union Road through a portion of our family's dairy farm," Stoddard said. She said a Facebook video she posted about the project has attracted substantial attention and that she has repeatedly opposed plans to alter the route.
Stoddard said the family previously settled after being told by a city employee that the city had one week to settle or would proceed with eminent domain; that earlier episode, she said, "left a lasting impression on our family." She also said she was told by Jim Ball that Mayor Corbett "has gone on record with Smokey Barn News stating that he is not interested in pursuing eminent domain for this project," which she said was a relief to the family.
Stoddard asked the council to remove the rerouting of Union Road that would pass through her property "permanently" from the city's 20-year growth plan and urged officials to pursue alternate designs that would "improve Union Road and Highway 76 intersection, while also honoring and respecting the rights of all the land owners in our area." She closed by thanking the board for listening.
The board did not take formal action on the Union Road reroute during the meeting. The transcript records Stoddard’s public comments and the council’s later agenda business (including separate hearings and routine votes) but does not show any vote or direction to staff on the reroute itself.
